We're big fans of Halloween but remain on the fence about celebrating Halloween in Miami. In a town where partying just seems to naturally occur every weekend of the year, something about having to map out specific plans weeks in advance, getting a costume together, and making sure all of your friends are involved can get a bit stressful.
Turns out the data crunchers at Wallet Hub aren't too keen on spending spooky time in the 305 either. Out of the nation's 100 largest cities, Miami ranked 12th worst for Halloween.
The analysis took into account factors that affect families looking to do some trick-or-treating as well as adults who hope to go out to the club in next to nothing and treat themselves to some tricks. Factors the researchers studied include a youthful population, the numbers of costumes and candy stores, weather forecast, crime rate, number of bars per capita, and average price of a Halloween party ticket.
Miami didn't do too well in any of those categories. Here's the breakdown:
91st – % of the Population Aged 14 or Younger
92nd – % of Occupied Housing Units (Potential Stops for Trick-or-Treaters)
74th – Crime Rate
95th – Average Price of a Halloween Party Ticket
27th – # of Halloween Costume Stores per Capita
35th – # of Candy Stores per Capita
26th – Weather Forecast for Halloween
28th – # of Bars per Capita
90th – Average Movie Ticket Price
Well, at least the weather will be nice.
The rankings spell out some good points, first of which is that neighborhoods that make for good trick-or-treating spots within city limits are pretty hard to come by (and tend to get pretty crowded). Of course, for adults, the high price of many Halloween parties (the sixth most expensive in the nation) doesn't help for people without kids either.
Hialeah fared slightly better in the rankings, coming in as only the 23rd worst town for Halloween.
As it turns out, it doesn't appear that Florida overall is a good Halloween state. St. Petersburg was ranked dead last. The best city for Halloween in the United States? New York.
