Like the idea of an orzo pesto salad on your lunch break? Or how about a scoop of dulce de leche gelato after dinner? Well, Brickell residents, workers, and visitors are in luck. Argentina’s Freddo, a popular maker of helado — fine artisanal gelato — opened its second South Florida location, at 1100 S. Miami Ave. The first Freddo outpost opened last year in Miami Beach at 610 Lincoln Rd.
Located on the ground floor of the newly constructed Millecento building, Freddo Brickell has introduced new breakfast and lunch items to its menu in hopes of catering to the area’s business crowd, says Miami franchise owner Jimena Duran.
“Brickell has a big concentration of buildings. There are residential apartments, commercial buildings, and offices,” she says. “It’s a small area but highly concentrated, which is great for our new location.”
Pair your morning espresso with a croissant ($2), bagel ($1.75), or tostados ($4.25 for three triangles), as well as other breads and pastries. Grab-and-go lunch items, ranging from $9.25 to $11.50, include fresh wraps and salads.
If you're in the mood for helado, this is one place to go. Duran recommends trying her favorites, dulce de leche and chocolate chip. But there are more than 30 flavors to choose from. Take a scoop of the banana split (banana helado with dulce de leche swirls and chocolate flakes) or check out the chocolate mousse or mixed berries Italian semifreddo, served in a cup or cone.
Other sweet treats include Freddo’s famed panini gelato — a panini-pressed Hawaiian roll filled with helado and a choice of toppings — and Freddinos, a creamy concoction of helado and coffee. Sundaes, smoothies, and cakes are also available.

Since the first Freddo store opened in Buenos Aires in 1969, more than 180 locations have sprouted worldwide, including in several South American countries and the United Kingdom. The first U.S. store was established in Charleston, South Carolina, in August 2014.
Miamians will soon be able to enjoy a third South Florida location, expected to open in Doral in early 2016.
“Latin American people know it very well,” Duran says. “Freddo has 100 stores in Argentina. It has almost 50 in Brazil. There’s a Freddo in Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile. A lot of people from Latin America know about Freddo. As soon as they recognize the brand here, they will know the quality of our product.”
