Jose Cartaya Reyes and Robel Rosendo Morales were shepherded to jail after the armed robbery and ensuring slaughtering of three Barbados blackbelly sheep in Hialeah Gardens. The flock of two now face charges of animal cruelty, armed burglary, and possession of burglary tools.

According to NBC Miami, the two were caught Saturday afternoon after lying to police about a flat tire. The officer was responding to a burglary call when he spotted the two men hoisting an object into the back of a pickup truck near NW 102nd Avenue and 138th Street. The two said they had a flat tire, but the officer took a look at all four tires and realized none were indeed flat.

The officer then spotted a freshly slaughtered sheep.

Barbados blackberry sheep, as the name would suggest, are from the Caribbean and primarily raised for meat. The fact they have short hair instead of fluffy wool allows them to thrive in hotter atmospheres.

Two more sheep were found in the area near the fence of the property where the men had stolen them.

Both Reyes and Morales are being held on $20,000 bond.
