Happy Monday, Miami consumers. Today is the perfect time to celebrate your inner cheapskate. It's National Thrift Shop Day, and Miami is fit to burst with eccentric spots full of secondhand gems. Maybe you prefer the mayhem of Hialeah's Red, White and Blue Thrift Store, or perhaps you like to spin around in all the shiny sequins at Little Haiti Thrift and Gift. As we're sure you'll take this chance to pop some tags at your prime bargain hunting grounds, we've provided some free activities where you can show off those once bin-buried treasures all week long.

Monday
  • Morocco at Fashion Project BHS: This 1930 film starring Marlene Dietrich and Gary Cooper kicks off a week of free films for the FP festival, Dressing Down The Movies: Nat Chediak on Fashion. Don't miss the American debut of Dietrich's signature top hat and tails, which marked her as an androgynous fashion icon.
  • Carmen and Alexandra Harra at Books & Books: One of Bravo's Karma Queens, Carmen Harra's new book combines her knowledge of psychology, metaphysics, and counseling experience to share the power karma has in our relationships.
Tuesday
  • Olivia Ramos at Locust Projects: The multidisciplinary artist presents Formula for Making at the latest Locust Roundtable.
  • Memories Then and Now at FIU Miami Beach Urban Studios: Catch visual artist Roma Ingrid James' exhibition before it closes August 21.

Wednesday
  • The Blues Brothers at Shirley's: The comedic talent of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, plus the music of Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown. Hit it!

Thursday
  • Cinema and the transition to democracy with Javier Gutierrez at Centro Cultural Español: Ahead of the South Florida premiere of Alberto Rodriguez’s Marshland, this panel featuring star and Best Actor Goya winner Gutierrez looks at the way Spanish films, and those in Latin America and around the world, have dealt with issues of difficult political transitions.
  • Veteran's Open Mic at Books & Books: Performance art collective The Combat Hippies hosts this evening dedicated to expression among Miami's veteran community.

Friday
  • Norma Rae at Wolfsonian: Another brilliant leading lady, watch Sally Field fight for workers' rights in a Southern textile mill. Union!
  • Free Fridays Happy Hour at Wolfsonian: Stroll the museum's treasures for free and enjoy half-price beer, wine, and cocktails.
  • Big Night in Little Haiti at Little Haiti Cultural Center: This month's Little Haiti bash features music by PNP Plezi'n Nap Pran and Rara Rock.
