74. Kobe Burger at CG Burgers

In our current glut of boutique burger emporiums serving supposedly "gourmet" hamburgers, CG Burgers' patties stand out from the rest. Firstly, there are more choices than anywhere else -- as in burgers built from bison, turkey, vegetables, all-natural Angus, USDA Prime Beef, or, the favorite we feature here today, Kobe. All are tasty and come on sesame seed or whole wheat bun with free options of lettuce, tomato, pickles, jalapeños, horseradish chipotle sauce, grilled onions, mushrooms, or peppers. Of course it would be crazy to put all of those potential garnishes together on one burger; we generally skip the mushrooms. And when we get the Kobe Burger, at most we'll go with lettuce or tomato -- because you really don't want to cover up the full beefy flavor.

Is the beef used Japanese A5 Kobe? Of course not; we're lucky if it's even American Kobe. Isn't chopping Kobe beef and cooking it past a rare state the worst method of eating this delicately fat-laced meat? Yes, it is. Isn't $9.95 an awful lot to pay for a six-ounce fast-food burger? Good question! Again: yes, it is. But but but...$9.95 is not too much to fork over for an indisputably delicious, flavor-potent patty (and something of a bargain relative to Wagyu pricing). Plus if it's that tasty, who cares about the specific pedigree of cow and whether we're getting all we can from the cut of beef. The CG Kobe Burger is simply the best tasting fast food burger around. Add a side of french fries culled from fresh whole potatoes and an ice cold beer on tap and just enjoy.
