Animal lovers, March is the time to haul ass to RA Sushi in South Miami, where the purchase of a mouthwatering roll means helping homeless pets. And what's worthier than adorable puppies and cutie-pie kittens?

Last month, Short Order's Laine Doss took home top prize in RA's Foodies Show Heart charity competition. Her "Tropical Heat Roll" (tuna, avocado, mango, and jalapeño rolled in rice and seaweed with mango salsa) won big, and half the proceeds from the purchase of the $10 roll will benefit Tri County Humane Society, a no-kill shelter that saves thousands of pets every year.

With avocado as the secret seasonal ingredient, each contestant collaborated with one of RA's chefs to create and name their unique creations. The attending public then tasted the rolls and served as judge and jury in the final tally.

Doss scored the big win, and throughout the month of March, proceeds from her championship roll will go to the charity where she adopted her darling Chihuahua, Dora. Tri County Humane saves the lives of animals in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Martin counties. So next time you or anyone you know is looking for a new furry friend, that shelter is your best bet.

P.S.: RA Sushi's happy hour is one of the best in Miami, so stop by from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday for cheap drinks and discounted eats. Paying full price for the Tropical Heat Roll is totally worth it, however. The puppies will thank you.
