It's been nearly two years since China Grill, the restaurant that in 1995 essentially started Miami Beach's dining renaissance, closed its doors and announced a move to Brickell.

In April 2012, China Grill Management and Jeffrey Chodorow announced China Grill Brickell would open "in the fourth quarter of this year, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of China Grill's flagship New York location."

Now, two years later, there's finally activity. RCC Associates, the South Florida contractor that recently worked on the Redbury Hotel and its Lorenzo restaurant in South Beach, has released a few details about China Grill Brickell.

The restaurant, which features "more than 13,000 square feet indoors and an additional 3,900-square-foot patio" and will accommodate a staggering 452 guests, is scheduled to open sometime in 2014.

Design details include "multiple levels of dining from mezzanine to a lounge area on the second floor." An "elevator and unique floating stairs" will connect the dining levels.

The space, designed by Arquitectonica, will include raised private dining on the patio overlooking Brickell with individual "bird nests" constructed from special materials.

Beverly Raphael, president and CEO of Deerfield Beach-based RCC Associates, called the design "simply daring and innovative, redefining the meaning of 'restaurant.' Imagine providing a unique, private outdoor dining experience at treetop level."

We can't wait to experience China Grill's brand of sophisticated Asian fusion while perched in a private nest.
