No, it's not another movie starring Meryl Streep. It was announced today that cooking legend Julia Child will return to the airwaves. Child, who passed away in 2004, will be resurrected via the new Cooking Channel. Beginning June 1, Julia's informative and oft-imitated show will be paired with the Galloping Gourmet for the ultimate foodie nostalgia. The Food Network's spinoff channel is calling this programming its "classic cooking block."

The rest of the nascent Cooking Channel's lineup is dominated with pithy-sounding shows such as Unique EatsDrink Up!FoodographyFood Jammers, and Spice Goddess. Over at the Food Network, they are introducing "edgier" shows such as Cupcake Wars24 Hour Restaurant Battle (with Scarpetta's Scott Conant), and Food Trucks. Fan favorites such as The Next Food Network Star and The Next Iron Chef will also return to prime time.

Despite all of this original programming, Short Order predicts cookbook queen Julia Child's old-school methods will garner the most raves. After all, who really wants to see midrange pastry chefs competing to bake the best cupcakes?
