Fans of Wood Tavern's casual Wynwood vibe will have much to celebrate come fall.
Wood's owner, Cesar Morales, is partnering with Maximiliano and Cristian Alvarez of Fiorito to open a cocktail lounge. It will be located upstairs from a pizzeria that Morales recently announced in the two-story space behind Wood Tavern.
Morales told Short Order that the upstairs lounge will have a full liquor license and a more "cocktail-driven" approach. The lounge will also offer affordable small plates (around $6 to $9 per item).
Morales described the décor as "'70s vintage -- like Wood was inside at the very beginning, with funky couches and stuff."
In April, Morales broke the news that he leased the muraled building behind Wood with plans to offer New York-style pizza by the slice, as well as juices and sweets in an attached convenience store. Considering the fact that there are still few places to grab a snack in Wynwood, the announcement came as a welcome addition to the ever-growing neighborhood, which would make the Wood Tavern block an entertainment compound of sorts.

When can we expect to be able to enjoy crafted cocktails and pizza?
Both the pizzeria and lounge are on track for a late-November/early-December opening, Morales says.
