Let's face it: Mother's Day can get a bit, well, stale. This Sunday, instead of treating Ma to a manicure or an overpriced brunch, why not hit her with the best meal of her life? Here are the top five unconventional places in Miami for every type of lady, from the domestic goddess to the big-shot lawyer and everyone in between.

Despite being run by a celeb chef, this is the best place to take the no-fuss mom who loves meat on a bun and a good old-fashioned homage. From May 11 to 17, they'll serve a "Yo Mama Burger," inspired by chef de cuisine Thomas Griese's childhood memories of peanut butter, crisp bacon, and, of course, his mom. Burgers cost $26, or $28 with a beer (from 6 to 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. to close).
For the woman whose muse is Sophia Loren, there's an Italian-style dinner at Dolce Italian. DI celebrates with a four-course menu featuring classics such as prosciutto melone, pea soup, and veal scaloppine. For $35 per person, it's a sweet way to show some amore.
Does Mom have a yen for Thai food and hot sauce? If so, she'll love this Fort Lauderdale restaurant that offers knockout specials such as massaman curry beef and squash blossom tempura. As a bonus, Coco's will give away its signature hot sauce along with long-stemmed white roses. Talk about a marriage of spicy and sweet. Dinner is served from 3 to 10 p.m. and will feature an abbreviated menu and special à la carte items.
2. Rincón Escondido Tapas & Restaurant
You may call or show up expecting a Mother's Day special. Don't. This is our wildcard pick, the place to take the mom who hates crowds, hates shows, and hates fuss. Rincón is understated (no mimosas) and casual (wicker basket décor). Spanish classics such as pulpo a la Gallego, Spanish tortilla, and gazpacho reign supreme. Oh, and don't forget to get Mom a pitcher or two of sangria. This is a mostly tapas joint, so meals range from $15 to $30.
1. Katsuya
Katsuya might seem a bit decadent. It is, but we think Mother's Day is the perfect excuse to splurge. With items such as wagyu filet with foie gras ($30), miso-marinated black cod($23) and tons of sushi and sashimi, you'll have to roll your mom out of there, but, hell, she's worth it, right?
You're welcome, Ma.
