An argument between two students yesterday afternoon at Miami Norland Senior Senior High School turned violent when one student pulled out a gun and shot the other in his rear end. The 17-year-old victim is recovering, and his injuries are not life-threatening. However, the student who shot him has so far evaded police.
The incident occurred shortly after classes ended yesterday. The students got into some sort of argument around 3:40 on the baseball field at the school, located at 1050 NW 195th St. in Miami Gardens. The gunman fired several shots, eventually hitting the victim in the buttocks and then fleeing.
Most students had left school by the time the shooting occurred, but the campus was placed on lockdown. Three nearby schools -- Norland Middle School, Norland Elemntary, and Norwood Elementary -- were also temporarily locked down.
The identities of both students have not been released, and the gunman is still on the loose.
"He was a good person," an unidentified woman who knows the victim told WSVN. "He changed his life a couple of years ago. He stopped hanging out with the wrong crowd and things like that, so it's really sad to hear this."
