The unemployment rate in Miami-Dade has reached 10.6 percent -- up from 9.9 percent a month ago. That number is actually adjusted for seasonal employment, so the current number of unemployed eligible workers in the county is 11.1 percent.
The county rate matches the state rate, which is also 10.6 percent. Meanwhile, the national employment rate is 9.5 percent. Fifteen states now have unemployment rates higher than 10 percent, while Michigan, America's car capital, has topped 15 percent. The first state to reach that level since West Virginia did so in 1984. This is the ninth straight month where the national unemployment rate has risen.
