So, the Republican are having their National Convention in Florida, which is slightly uncomfortable for conservatives as Florida has one of the least popular Republican governors in the country. Despite some early speculation to the contrary, however, the Romney campaign has given Gov. Rick Scott a tiny little speaking spot during primetime on the first day of the convention. Might as well get the Scott speech over with, we guess.
The RNC released the schedule for the first day of the RNC, and lo and behold Scott actually made the cut. He'll be speaking sometime after 7:45 p.m., directly after House Speaker John Boehner and right before GOP chairman Reince Priebus. Though, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will have far more prominent speaking spots later in the night.
"What I'm going to talk about is pretty much what I do every day and what I ran on," Scott told reporters this morning. "It's how do we get our state back to work."
Which is odd, considering the Romney campaign has been trying to portray Florida's economy as still struggling under Obama, while Scott meanwhile is trying to take credit for any recovery.
The national GOP hasn't embraced Scott all that much. He didn't offer an endorsement during the presidential primary, and given his unpopularity, that just seemed fine with the candidates.
Several other Floridians will get more important speaking spots during the campaign. Marco Rubio will have the honor of introducing Mitt Romney on Thursday night. Former Governor Jeb Bush and Senate candidate Connie Mack IV will also address the convention.
