Florida Ranks Fifth for Job Cuts in 2011

So far in 2011, 18,098 jobs have been cut in Florida. That makes the Sunshine State fifth for job cuts in America. Way to go, "Job Governor" Rick Scott!

The data comes from a job-cut announcement report by outplacement consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.


Florida will also rack up a projected 2,077 layoffs in August. That's the most in the Southeast and seventh most in the nation.

Of course, these rankings are adjusted for population, and Florida is the fourth most populous state. Florida, however, is behind only California (45,105 layoffs), the District of Columbia (33,481), New Jersey (27,706), and Michigan (23,727) in terms of total layoffs this year.
