Nail salon employee is not a job usually associated with danger, but a worker at the Nails 4 U salon on Biscayne Boulevard and 155th Street was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital last night for surgery after being shot in the chest on the job.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. when two armed men rushed into the salon while several customers were getting their toes done up with their fingernails matching. The men demanded money and valuables from the customers and workers.

"Two young black males entered this business, this 'Nails 4 U', armed with guns. They then proceeded to rob all the customers, any employees and possibly even the owners of all their possessions, handbags, cash, anything they could get," police spokesman Neal Cuevas told media.

After collecting their loot, another man who police believe worked at the salon followed them out. That's when at least one of the suspects, but perhaps both, started shooting at the victim. He took a bullet to the chest, and is now recovering from emergency surgery.

The men hurried off, dropping some money from their heist, and escaped in a four-door, dark-colored Cadillac. The get away car was later found abandoned.

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
