Obstacle courses like mud runs have become popular recently among Miami athletes who like to push their bodies to the limit. Now, the mother of them all is setting up right in downtown. And she is swole.
American Ninja Warrior, G4 TV's brawny sports competition, returns to the Magic City this weekend for two nights of filming at Bayfront Park. Spectators can watch its athletes do battle against a crazy series of ladders, pools, and cannons.
Friday through Saturday, 125 competitors will be engaging in live production of the G4 reality show. For the newly introduced, it's a contest in the same vein as MXC and other semi-humiliating athletic battle royales. (Imagine Wipeout with the intensity of old-school American Gladiators.)
They'll be shooting in the evening, promising a "Friday Night Lights" feel to the competition. So cue the dramatic darkness as the dudes sweat, strain, and do their best to complete the course and advance to the next round. An announcement from the show promises spectators galore, and with such a high-profile location, that's a solid prediction. You're going to want to get there early if you want the best views.

Last year, American Ninja Warrior visited FIU to film, and we saw everything from a Tennessee Titan to a Harlem Globetrotter try their skills on the course.
Most of the competitors have already been chosen, but the show will allow some walk-on tryouts. So if you're fitter than the Sun Gym Gang and want to be on TV, maybe skip your Mansion plans and try for fame and fortune, instead.
