You can judge the cultural cache of a city by how much good art you stumble upon in public spaces. For a long time, all we had in Miami were broken bowl/orange peel sculptures outside of municipal buildings and a couple Britto-splattered parking meters. And we don't want to jinx it, but we think Miami may have graduated to the next rung on the culture ladder. This past summer, experimental filmmaker Dinorah de Jesus Rodriguez brought her video installation Elusive Landscape into five public parks. And now, thanks to the Miami Art Museum, work by 305's young crop of video artists will screen on the giant LED marquee outside the American Airline Arena (AKA the Media Mesh).

Instead of flashing through the mugs of the Heat's three kings, tonight, the

three-story screen will show selections from MAM's

compilation of local video artists. The same selection was screened last

weekend at the MAM-hosted party at the Louis in Gansevoort South. Artists include: Sam Borkson & Bert Rodriguez,

FriendsWithYou, Christy Gast, Jiae Hwang & Nicholas Raftis III, Lee

Materazzi, Raul J. Mendez, Magnus Sigudardson, Kyle Trowbridge, Tatiana

Vahan, Agustina Woodgate, and Juan Carlos Zaldivar.

The video art takeover of the Triple A happens tonight only from 8 p.m.

to midnight. But you'll be able to catch the complete video compilation when

it loops at MAM (101 W. Flagler

Street, Miami) on October 16 and 17th from noon to 5 p.m. Let's just hope they keep

pulling art off the museum walls and plopping it down on Miami's needy

streets.
