Lincoln Road's transformation into the kind of shopping center you'd find in suburbia continues today with news that American Eagle Outfitters and Urban Outfitters are planning to set up shop along the pedestrian mall. ExMiami reports that the two retailers are the latest big-brand clothing stores to set their sights on South Beach.
The chains are joining recent additions like H&M and Forever 21, as well as longer-standing stores like The Gap and J.Crew, along the pedestrian thoroughfare. Zara also announced that it'll be opening its own store with a Lincoln Road address.
We've reached out to both Outfitters brands for store details and opening dates, and we'll update this post as soon as we have more information.
UPDATE: American Eagle tells us that their store will be located at 825-829 Lincoln Road. They've signed a lease for 4,500 sq. ft., and are anticipating a late fall opening date.

In the meantime, think on this: Lincoln Road was once a unique architectural fixture in Miami, redesigned by Morris Lapidus as one of the first pedestrian malls in the country. Today, only about a half-century later, it's an Orange Julius away from becoming a carbon copy of the shopping centers you'll find anywhere else in the U.S.
It's not a new realization -- Lincoln has at least a decade of serving as South Beach's glorified mall under its belt. Still, sometimes the pace of development is just breathtaking, isn't it?
