Tomorrow's your chance to score some duds that will make you look like the Barbie of Hip-Hop. Yes, Nicki Minaj is just one of Miami designer Karelle Levy's Krelwear line celebrity fans. The designer describes her tubular knits (often in day-glo colors) as "newer, more avant garde Missioni." Levy, who has a degree in textile design from Rhode Island School of Design, has been taking a break from her line to focus on large-scale installations and performance art. Early last month, her Webs of Life installation exhibited at the New Museum's inaugural Festival of Ideas in NYC.
Also in the Big Apple, Levy and her merry band of DiscoGlo girls performed at a warehouse party to commemorate MTV's launch of Skins. But despite her recent success up north, Levy is a Miami girl and one of early settlers in Wynwood (her boutique has been there since 1991). Stop by her boutique tomorrow for crazy discounts on her famous knits. Tuesday, celebrate with her at a party at Lords South Beach.
Tomorrow's clearance sale runs noon until 7 p.m at her Wynwood Boutique. Prices start at $10, tops runs $20 to $50, dresses $30 to $50, and pants $40. There will also be limited edition and one-of-a-kind pieces such as shorts $50, tops $95, dresses $175 and up. Levy is even willing to make alternations to get you snug in her knits. Tuesday, Levy will host a Black Light Party at Lords South Beach's Shhh Party with fellow hosts Erin Newberg, Lauren Foster, and Justin Keeperman. RSVP required to [email protected] and wear your day-glo. If the mix of darkness and neon isn't reason enough, come for the free Herradura Tequila cocktails from 9 to 10 p.m.
