In a city where anything (and everything) goes, standards are pretty high for All Hallows' Eve. If you haven't chosen your costume yet, you may be behind the eight ball. Halloween is just nine days away, which means Party City is sold out of everything good -- and there's only so much Goodwill hunting you can probably handle.
Lucky for those a little late to the party, the 800-square-foot Share Squared space in Little Havana is hosting two workshops this week for DIY'ers in need of costume help. The first installment is on Wednesday, the second, Friday, both from 7 to 10 p.m. The ladies of SS will help you cobble together a one-of-a-kind creation sure to outshine that store-bought slutty Elsa costume.

The space itself is a work area where creative types can come to sew, draw, make jewelry, silkscreen, knit -- almost anything. Those at the helm host classes and workshops, like this week's Halloween-themed DIY adventures. Basically, it's all about bringing people together to get crafty.
"We are constantly coming up with with new ideas to bring people together that love to make things. We also use our space to host events and pop-up stores for smaller start up lines," says co-founder Kelly Griffith. She and Euridice Martin opened the spot in September 2013.
They have Make Your Own Clothes classes, plus silkscreening and leather working. SS also runs Recycle Your Jeans workshops, macrame, threads and nails, and more.
"We are two friends that love making things and working with our hands and wanted to create an inviting space where people could be surrounded by other creative minds," says Martin. "Share Squared is our dream; we built the space ourselves, and our husbands and friends helped us to make it the way it is: a beautiful, functional creative space."
As far as this week's gathering, there's no charge. Just show up with all your own materials and some kind of concept.
"You bring the idea and the materials, and we have all the tools and space to make the costume a reality. We can guide those whose sewing skills are a bit amateur, or lend a helping hand if you aren't quite sure how something is done," Griffith explains.
And if your creative juices are running dry:
"If anybody needs an idea ... the loofah costume is fun to make," suggests Martin. "Just bring a few yards of a bright color tulle and you will have your own handmade Halloween costume."
The Halloween costume workshops run Wednesday (part one) and Friday (part two) from 7 to 10 p.m. at Share Squared, 537 SW 12th Ave. It's free to attend, but bring your own materials.
