With all the fuss about what goes into our bodies, it's easy to forget about what goes on them. Given that our skin is the largest organ (and arguably the most sensitive), it's just as important to read the labels on beauty products as it is on foodstuffs.
Luckily, green beauty is everywhere. New companies offering good-for-you cosmetic products are popping up all the time and come October 3, you can check out some of these local brands at Miami's first Green Beauty Night Out.

The event, launched by Barbara Jacques of Jacq's Organics, is designed to introduce Miamians to products made with pride in the 305. Her brand, founded in 2012, is a Green America-certified business that's also cruelty-free and a signer of The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.
"Miami has a small, growing community of green businesses that wanted to create an evening where local businesses will get highlighted -- we can create a community and let locals know this is what's in your backyard; you have brands here that are green or organic," says Jacques.
There'll be a local celebrity makeup artist on hand, complimentary mini-manicures and mini-spa treatments, green makeup touch ups, lash extensions, and other fodder for beauty addicts. There will also be drinks and bites.
Vendors doling out the services and advice will include Makeup by Rory Lee, DeliverLean, OnJuice, Hisham Salon Miami, Maggie Rose Premium Extensions & Salon, RENAN Chakra Haircare Series, and LucyRBrows. The first part of the evening will include the above lineup, then Jacques will speak to attendees about how and why she founded her company and other topics of interest for green enthusiasts.
"Guests can expect to receive green swag bags that include some of our products, and other products that are also green. We're trying to get as many things as possible so our event goers can have a really cool fun evening of beauty," Jacques says.
The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Guests can RSVP online. It runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 3 at Archive Fine Arts & Gallery.
