The Canadian DJ's going to be dropping electro dance beats at LIV next month, about a month before he takes his act to New Orleans as a featured performer at this year's Voodoo Experience Music Festival. Unfortunately, one of his longtime friends and frequent collaborators won't be with him at either event.

Earlier this month, the world lost legendary French music producer DJ Mehdi. And Alain "A-Track" Maklovich lost one of his best friends.

The two friends met for the first time in Montreal on New Year's Eve 2006. "As soon as I met Mehdi, a bond was quickly forged," Maklovich writes in a touching tribute posted on his website. "It felt like I finally met my DJ partner."

"Indeed as I got to know Mehdi, there was more than just a common taste in music that brought us together," Maklovich writes. "There was a sense of humor, a love for writing, a thirst for knowledge, not to mention a passion for Seinfeld."

A-Trak and Mehdi hit the road together, spinning as a tag team. They played clubs, festivals, and house parties together while simultaneously building an incredible friendship. They vacationed together, and even swapped houses for two months.

"Whenever I showed up, whether it be on one of these trips or simply at his Paris apartment, the first thing he would say was: 'T'es chez toi.'"

It's been a rough month for A-Trak, losing one of his best buddies. But as he says, Mehdi's spirit lives on, and the two friends undoubtedly be in the DJ booth together next week at LIV.

A-Trak. Friday, October 7. LIV, 4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. The party starts at 11 p.m. and tickets cost $75 plus fees via wantickets.com. Call 305-674-4680 or visit livnightclub.com.
