Even though Art Basel Miami Beach is still four months away, we here at Crossfade have already started scouring the interwebs for arty party announcements. And lo, superfluorescent popster Neon Indian (AKA Alan Palomo) has just announced a Basel week show at Bardot on December 1.
But Mr. Indian isn't simply planning a subtropical winter getaway. He's also plotting a 30-city North American tour (Philly to Vancouver to Austin and ending in Miami) while prepping his sophomore album, Era Extraña.
Slated for release on September 13, Neon Indian's new slab is a 14-track sonic dream that's full of songs with slyly evocative titles like "Blindside Kiss," "Halogen (I Could Be a Shadow)," and "Future Sick."
The official press release even contains an album description worth quoting. It reads like a pretty little prose poem with a bonus quote from the Neon one himself.
Written and recorded last winter in an efficiency apartment in Helsinki, Finland during its short solstice days, Era Extraña was ice sculpted from arpeggiated synth-scapes and scribbled journal entries made during his stint there alone in constant solitude. "It's the closest you can get to feeling like you're at the edge of the earth," he says. "And there were moments where I lost sight of what I was really there to do."
Despite the suggestion of dark and icy Scandinavian "synth-scapes," though, Mr. Indian's first single "Polish Girl" is a bright and sparkling slice of bittersweet electro-pop that'll be pretty much perfect for a warm winter arty party in Midtown Miami.
