We all know hip-hop was better back in the day (namely the mid '90s) before MCs and beatmakers-for-hire became obsessed with their cellphones and started writing ringtones instead of blratt-blratt rap tracks.
Thankfully, the Rock the Bells Festival Series is hustling hard to preserve the days -- otherwise known as the Golden Age of hip-hop -- when rappers only carried pagers.
Really, homie, it's time to take a stand against the cheap, tinny stuff. So smash you cell and be there with your beeper when Rock the Bells brings the Wu-Tang crew's Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, plus Mobb Deep to the Fillmore Miami Beach September 13.
Now unfortunately, the 305 won't be experiencing the fest's full thrust. We only get one big stage and three bold names while the series's other cities (including L.A., San Fran, NYC, and Boston) get four stages and 30-plus performances from hip-hop legends like Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Erykah Badu, GZA, Cypress Hill, Common, and Black Star -- not to mention young runners like Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T., and Freddie Gibbs.
But don't get it twisted ... We ain't complaining. We're just hoping that Ghostface, Raekwon, the Mobb, and Rock the Bells are convinced enough by the MIA's commitment to classic rap that they'll drop the full fucking load on us in 2012.
Ghostface, Raekwon, and Mobb Deep as part of the Rock the Bells Festival Series. Tuesday, September 13. Fillmore Miami Beach, 1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $30 plus fees via livenation.com. Call 305-673-7300 or visit fillmoremb.com.
