What is potentially the absolute last headline we'd gamble on reading just popped into our inbox.
"GRAMMY WINNER BON IVER @ THE FILLMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yes, that's 47 exclamation points preceded by what may be the best news we've heard this month. Granted, we're only two days deep into April, but a Bon Iver show announcement is huge.
The indie-folk outfit led by Justin Vernon had seemingly forgotten about Florida when the group announced their 2012 dates earlier this year. Aside from a few gigs in California and a handful of music festival appearances, it looked as though our only chance of catching Bon Iver live would happen in Australia. Do you have any idea what the airfare would be?
It's outrageous. We looked into it.
Needless to say, we're much happier now that New Times' Best Flack 2011, Woody Graber, broke the news that Bon Iver would grace the Fillmore stage on Wednesday, June 6, as part of the Cruzan Concert Series.
In February, Bon Iver pulled an Arcade Fire and shocked the mainstream world when they won a legitimate, televised Grammy award, Best New Artist. Vernon's Bon Iver also took home the award for Best Alternative Album, beating out the likes of Radiohead and Death Cab For Cutie.
"It's really hard to accept this award," Vernon said after he was presented with the Best New Artist Grammy. "There's so much talent here on this stage and there's so much talent that's not here tonight. And it's also hard to accept because when I started to make songs, I did it for the inherent reward of making songs, so I'm a little bit uncomfortable up here."
While he may have been uncomfortable at the Grammy's, Vernon's quite comfortable performing for his fans. We'll see y'all at the show.
