For truly dedicated Deadheads, every day is a psychedelic 4/20 freakout.
Smoke a bowl, drop some acid, sip a little red wine, and take a trip through the universe to a jagged purple planet and a lonely San Francisco-style tenement where six extraterrestrial rock stars are staring at a snowy TV screen and channel surfing through ambient shows mimicking mind-bending ionospheric phenomena.
As a wise man once said: "This isn't any normal genre. This is the Grateful Dead."
So do another dose. Play a few games of cosmic pinball. And watch Uncle Sam's face fall off. Oh yeah, you're gonna need a ticket too. Buy it now. And drag your hippie ass to the cineplex. It's time for The Grateful Dead Movie.
After an initial one-night run on April 20 (AKA 4/20 or International Weed Day) in 540 American theaters, the Dead Movie is being brought back by massive popular demand. Translation: The drugs aren't all gone.
So tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., NCM Fathom and Rhino Entertainment are giving the United States of Dead an encore presentation of this classic 1974 rockumentary. You'll get stoned. You'll get "U.S. Blues," "One More Saturday Night," "Casey Jones," "Playing in the Band," and "Sugar Magnolia." And you'll get to see an exclusive, never-before-seen interview with Jerry Garcia wherein the Dead Movie co-director bemusedly admits: "It's all different than the way I remember it!"
Hmmm ... Why's that, King Deadhead? Why is that?
