As if the promise of a big hipster party out at sea isn't reason enough to pack up your favorite American Apparel swimsuit and head to sunny Miami in February ... Now the Bruise Cruise (the world's first-ever hipster cruise?) is throwing a pre-party at Grand Central February 24.
The lineup reads like Pitchfork porn. You've got the Black Lips, Surfer Blood, Vivian Girls, Thee Oh Sees, Strange Boys, Quintron and Ms. Pussycat, Ty Segall, Turbo Fruits, and more. In other words, a few deservedly acclaimed crews alongside bloated, overrated bands with reputations built on churning out the kind of stuff music geeks cum oh-so-hard for.
We'll let you decide who we think are the lame ducks of the bunch.
The party is serving as a kick-off for the official Bruise Cruise which will take over Carnival's Imagination for a three-day voyage to Nassau, Bahamas, and back. (Cruising families, watch out for ironic facial hair and PBR puke.) The cruise will feature events available only to Bruise Cruise attendees, referred to as "Bruisers" by the official site.
Tickets for the kickoff at Grand Central are on sale now for $15 (expect prices to go up) and free for all Bruisers, while cruise tickets start at $500 (time to tap into the trust fund).

And rejoice kids, it's gonna be all-ages and features most of -- if not all -- the Bruiser bands. Which begs the question: Why the hell would anyone drop five c-notes to see them on a cruise?
