IndepenDANCE Pool Party 2012 Celebrates Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness

It took 56 signatures and seemingly endless bloodshed. But on July 4, 1776, 13 American colonies became independent of the British Empire and the United States of America was born.

Though electronic dance music was still centuries away on that fateful day, some scholars suggest that the Declaration of Independence foreshadowed the massive popularity of so-called tiki-tiki music.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Of course, "Happiness" is just another term for euphoria, a feeling bro-steppers and pill poppers experience when they meet "Molly" at a hotel pool. And that's why the Surfcomber Hotel honors the Fourth of July with the IndepenDANCE Pool Party.




As America celebrates its 236th birthday, Go Big Pool Parties celebrates its eighth annual IndepenDANCE. This year's DJ lineup hasn't been announced. But it'll likely feature some EDM superstars.

Presented by Alex Omes, Emi Guerra, and Louis Puig, the Fourth of July spectacle has welcomed major electronic artists over the years. In 2010, two Dutchmen and a Swede -- Armin Van Buuren, Sander Kleinenberg, and Avicci -- provided the soundtrack for America's birthday.



Last year, England's Fatboy Slim and Australian DJ-producer Dirty South uhntz-uhntz-ed in honor of the USA. The former even called an Englishman doing IndepenDANCE "delicious irony," and said the States is "much better off without us. Viva the revolution!"

That's right, viva the revolution and party like a continental forefather.
