Heres our spatial description of South Florida: beaches to the left and right, islands to the south, and a great big road to Nowheresville due north. We may have failed sixth-grade geography, but some of the earliest maps of Miami describe it the same way. In fact, map nerds the world over recognize our humble city as a premier destination for the celebration of cartographic art. The 18th annual International Map Fair is coming back to HistoryMiami, and it will draw some of the top experts and dealers in this field. There will be antique maps on display and available for purchase, as well as lectures, meals, and cocktail receptions. This Saturday and Sunday, you can even bring a map from your personal collection for an appraisal by a cartography expert. So if GIS (geographic information systems) make your latitude go long, and you enjoy a stiff drink, then dont miss this fair, which opens both days at 10 a.m.
