The city of Coral Gables is gearing up to host its second annual Culinary Month.

The food and wine event will run throughout June in downtown Coral Gables and Miracle Mile, featuring special events and a wide-ranging menu selection from some of the city's best restaurants.

"We want to give the community a special reason to explore Coral Gables, and this event gives foodies an opportunity to try a little bit of everything and save some dollars in the end," says Taciana Amador, executive director of the Coral Gables Business Improvement District, the organizer of Culinary Month as well as other local initiatives like Giralda Under the Stars and Halloween on the Mile.

Special events will include a blind wine tasting at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar Cafe ($35) on June 23 and a mixology class at Zucca restaurant ($50) on June 15.

Coral Gables is also hosting several free events, such as free coffee tastings every Friday at Cafe Grumpy and a free Spanish chistorra, empanadita, and Malbec tasting on June 14 at Amigo Grill.

This year's run will also feature a Restaurant Week Passport with instructions on how to win a gift card to downtown Coral Gables’ favorite destinations, and a Bark Crawl on June 29, where venues with outdoor space will offer refreshing drinks and pet-friendly treats.

Riders who take the Freebee, Coral Gables' free electric vehicle service, between June 10 through 16 can participate in a Coral Gables trivia challenge and compete for prizes from participating restaurants.

Coral Gables Culinary Month supplements the city's annual Coral Gables Restaurant Week, now in its 12th year. Compared with last year’s installment, the restaurant roster will offer more varied cuisine with 29 participating restaurants, including area newcomers like Ad Lib and Salumeria 104. From June 3 through 23, participant eateries allow diners to sample prix-fixe menus from restaurants such as Uvaggio Wine Bar, Ortanique on the Mile, and MesaMar Seafood Table. The discounted meals cost from $13.95 to $29 for lunch and $20 to $48 for dinner, excluding tax and gratuity.
