You’ll Get Served

There are so many ways we could make fun of an event described as a “sexy server competition” on its Website, but how could we dis a fest that benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and has the winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 4, Naima Mora, as the host? The second annual Beach Ball Festival features local service professionals who will be giving up their tips for the day as they duke it out in challenging tug of war, dodge ball, relay, and rock-climbing events for the sake of charity. Naima, who once waited tables herself, says she hopes to “give light to the service industry and the important role they play in everyday life.” Although traveling and modeling has kept her too busy to watch the new season of ANTM, Naima still puts in face time for charities. “I feel obliged to give back to the people who supported me,” she says.

After giving a shout-out to Naima, spectators can swill samplings from Southern Wine & Spirits while watching the hot competitors and jammin’ to performances by Inner Circle, Wesley Scantlin, and the Sugarhill Gang. The competition goes down on the sand near Eighth Street and Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, today (restaurants vs. hotels) and Sunday (clubs vs. bars) from noon to 7:00 p.m.
