Things are about to get mad turnt at the museum.
Pérez Art Museum Miami (1103 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) regularly welcomes cutting-edge DJ/producers to its grounds for musical merriment, but it has yet to bring anyone quite so in-your-face as Night Slug’s crew member Helix. The Georgia-born artist blends experimental beats with the sounds of Southern hip-hop. Add to that his childhood love of classic rock and videogame soundtracks, and the result is a dark, danceable, and wholly original blend of pounding bass, resounding gunshots, and trippy effects. It’s like modern industrial for the corner hustler.
His performance Thursday comes hot on the heels of his most recent release, the EP Hard Workin’ Trax, released under the pseudonym DJ Vague. Its three minimal techno bangers will get your blood pumping while remaining spacy and repetitious enough to let your mind wander. A Helix beat builds on itself slowly, so you can bet his DJ set will be nothing short of an epic, postindustrial voyage.
Let Helix create an atmosphere as you enjoy the art collections and balmy breezes by the bay.
