Wet Couture

Thongs are boring. What really get us excited are burqinis, that is, burqa-style bikinis. Perhaps it’s because the full-body spandex and built-in hoods remind us of superheros or that all that covered skin leaves so much to our filthy imaginations. On Wednesday, the eve of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, we plan to explore our full-body coverage fetish at Splashion. This runway show and fete, thrown by the glossy folks over at Miami Magazine, typically showcases the latest in bandeaus, bikinis, and board shorts. This year, however, we hope to see at least one bodacious burqini. The Heat’s own DJ Irie will blast beats as lanky models sashay in swim designs by Rebecca Virtue, Betsey Johnson, Jag, Jantzen, Perry Ellis Swim, Poupette St Barth, and La Martina. If the burqini is a no-show, at least we can drown our ennui in Cointreau cocktails, Voga Italia wines, and ice-cold Stella. There will be a beach-themed photo set, and the first 400 people to arrive will get a gift bag full of swag. The party is happening at LIV. Visit modernluxury.com/splashion.
