Documentary or not? The 87-minute feature Exit Through the Gift Shop smirkingly skirts the line between fact and fiction. Ostensibly the work of a wannabe filmmaker from France named Thierry Guetta, the project was commandeered at some point by the famously faceless art provocateur known by the pseudonym Banksy. The film tracks superstar graffiti guys including Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Space Invader, and a pixilated Banksy as they commit illegal acts of art. Meanwhile, Guetta adopts the nom de guerre Mr. Brainwash and tries to claim some fame for himself. The result is a street document, cinematic prank, and art world satire.
Anyway, after a Facebook and Twitter campaign, Exit is coming to Miami. It opens this Friday at AMC Sunset Place 24, screening several times per day. Tickets cost $10.50. By the way, this movie is unrated, so you dont have to smuggle your tweeny vandal into the theater. Leave the body-sized duffle bag at home.
