If you havent read it yet, take a break from the expert prose styling of Miami New Times and go slumming through our archrival the Gray Lady for A.O. Scotts Sunday magazine piece about the Neo-Neo Realism movement in contemporary American film. Or Google Wendy and Lucy and read through review after review that declares this independent film pretty much the Citizen Kane of Alaska and Michelle Williamss performance as worthy of much more than an Oscar (it was snubbed).
Its a shame that films such as this one which are keeping domestic cinema off life support dont get more screen love, but at least the Miami Beach Cinematheque has your back. If youve been to the Cinematheque, you know there arent many seats, and this Sundays screening will certainly be packed. Get there before 8:35 p.m. with ten dollars and a little extra for some popcorn to watch this economically told tale of a woman and her dog. And while the people who saw The Fast and the Furious are grabbing their crotches and getting speeding tickets, well all be hugging each other and declaring a new-found dedication to humanity.
