The Old Man and the Ring

Former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall is 45 years old. But you wouldn’t know it by looking at his rock-hard physique. He can kill most men with his mustache. McCall is 54-10 with 37 knockouts in his career, and now he’s looking to become the oldest heavyweight champion in boxing. “George Foreman is my inspiration,” McCall said recently. “I still have goals before I hang it up, and I have George Foreman to thank for that.” But McCall’s reasons to be thankful to Foreman are less fat-assy than ours. While the rest of us have Foreman to thank for delicious burgers and steaks, McCall is using the former champ and current grill pitchman as inspiration, because Foreman became the heavyweight champion of the world at age 45 in 1994. McCall will fight Puerto Rican boxer Fres Oquendo for the vacant IBF Inter-Continental heavyweight title in the main event at the Heavyweight Factory’s Backyard Brawl this Tuesday night at Hard Rock Live. The undercard features fighters such as Richard Abril, Azea Augustama, and Russian Magomed Abdusalamov. There will also be a special guest appearance by Roy Jones Jr. We’re betting McCall’s mustache could kick all of their asses if it really wanted to.
