Somebody call a doctor. Obamacare is about to take effect. And at this point, whether you think it’s an abomination or the best thing since sliced bread, it’s time to wade into the waters of the health-care marketplace or face fines.
Unfortunately, navigating the landscape of the Affordable Care Act is more than a little complicated. There are so many questions, so few answers, and only one marginally functional website.
Luckily, Life Is Art and the Arts & Business Council will host a forum, “The Arts and the Affordable Care Act,” this Monday to fill in all the blanks. At the informational meeting, you can learn what benefits and drawbacks will directly affect self-employed creatives, why smokers will pay more under the new plan, whether your maternity and mental health needs will be covered, and why it might be better to wait until later in 2014 to sign up for the plan if you choose to do so.
The information session costs $10 to attend and will feature a series of experts who’ll cover all aspects of the new insurance options and help everyone understand their choices.
