No matter if you’re a geek or a Greek — specifically those of the FIU fraternity variety — the 2014 FIU Comic-Con will provide fans of fantasy and sci-fi a taste of the extraordinary expo that San Diego hosts each year, albeit on a modified scale. So if your image of comics-collecting is intrinsically tied to nerds or nebbishes like those portrayed on The Big Bang Theory, think again. Comic-book collecting is serious business, and the revenues reaped at the box office by companies like Marvel and DC is on a supersize scale. With that in mind, the FIU Comics Club touts its mission as aimed at both the novice and the avowed enthusiast and “to promote a community where the appreciation for comic books and comic-related activities is encouraged.” So liberate your inner superhero, don a cape if you’d like, or pack a lightsaber if you must. Then indulge your comic compulsion this Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Panther Square on the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University (3000 NE 151st St., North Miami). Artists, animation, vendors, and videogames will abound, and best of all, admission is free. Up, up, and away!
