Old School

Age is the enemy of the athlete. In sports — even college sports — youth often equals prowess. That’s what makes the University of Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team, veritable old men in college basketball terms, so impressive. Of the team’s seven starters this year, all are in their 20s, and only sophomore sensation Shane Larkin isn’t yet old enough to drink. This Saturday, the Canes will meet the Clemson Tigers in the final regular-season game of the year at the BankUnited Center (1245 Dauer Dr., Coral Gables). As of this writing, the Canes have just one loss in ACC play and should be a shoo-in for the NCAA tournament. Though a recent loss to Wake Forest shouldn’t derail the Canes’ bid, it still would be great to go into NCAA tournament play on a nice win streak.
