Judging by a name like Buddhafest 2014, one would imagine it’s a festival dedicated to all things spiritual, but it’s really a gathering of some of the funkiest people from the Miami comedy, music, and arts scene.
Hailed as an event to celebrate local singer, actor, and songwriter Buddha Gonzalez, along with the Headless Chiwawas’ 20-year anniversary, Buddhafest is anything but short on entertainment. The long list of featured acts includes Urban Rebel and Sound Sleeper, who will provide beats, while Alonso Menendez will recite spoken-word poetry, Team Flik Street Art will create live street art, and Miami New Times’ own comedy blogger, Daniel Reskin, will perform some stand-up (aside from his duty as host). Whether you go to celebrate Buddha Gonzalez, dance the night away, or laugh until your back hurts, Buddhafest 2014 will rock. Head to Club Trade (1439 Washington Ave., Miami Beach) Thursday at 9 p.m. Leave your sage at home, but don’t forget $10 for admission.
