This past Monday afternoon, Daily News 11 published an article titled "Jim Carrey Explains Why He’s Moving to Hialeah, Florida." In it, the website goes on to quote the actor as saying, “I’m just tired of the L.A. lifestyle and the fake people... I’ve been to Hialeah a few times over the years and the people there are real… I’m just looking for a change in life, and I think I’ve found that in Hialeah.”
You might have done a double-take and looked at your calendar. No, it's not April 1; it's April 11, you quickly realize. This can't possibly be an April Fools' joke. Ah, but it's not.
Much like the Onion (and Miami's version, the Plantain), Daily News 11 is all about the jokes, 24/7. As its website states: "Daily News 11 is a fantasy news site. Most articles on dailynews11.com are satire or pure fantasy."
But it seems the site's witty piece of news traveled quickly (such is the magical way of the internet) and reached the comedian himself. Carrey took to Twitter to set the record straight. To his more than 15 million followers, he tweeted:
I love LA and all the kooks who live here. If u read otherwise, it's just the mischief of those who weren't their parents' 1st priority.?;^P— Jim Carrey (@JimCarrey) April 11, 2016
It's not, however, that Carrey doesn't have love for Miami. After all, the actor filmed his 1994 classic, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, in the Magic City.
