Must Love Cats

Those of us who are forever stuck with the image of Gina Gershon as a star of the amazing Showgirls will only be reminded of it by the title of the actress’s latest book. In Search of Cleo: How I Found My Pussy and Lost My Mind is, however, fairly squeaky-clean. Minds out of the gutter, people — it’s about Gershon’s cat! As the story goes, some ten years ago her beloved kitty, Cleo, went missing. Determined to get her back, Gershon went well beyond the usual photocopied poster route, undertaking an almost Homerian journey to retrieve her four-legged friend. The book details her comic exploits — pet psychic session, anyone? — and uses them as jumping-off points from which to reflect on the many cats in Gershon’s life. Heavy stuff this is not, but it’s a slab of sassy reading for cat ladies and the other humans who love them.
