Everybody loves a wholesome Christmas movie, but the ones that really stick out in our memory are the oddballs — holiday flicks that have a delightful combination of festive and freaky.
The 1984 horror comedy Gremlins is remembered for that unique balance and remains in the hearts of many moviegoers this time of year. Written by Chris Columbus, Gremlins is about a young man who receives a strange but lovable creature called a mogwai as a pet, which spawns other creatures that turn into hideous, evil monsters. Popcorn Nights and O Cinema celebrate Christmas with a 30th-anniversary screening of the classic.
The screening, kicking off at 9 p.m. Tuesday at O Cinema Wynwood (90 NW 29th St., Miami), will be hosted by Marc Ferman of popcornnights.com and keepitclassic.com. General-admission tickets cost $12 via eventbrite.com or at the door. Call 305-571-9970 or visit o-cinema.org.
