This week, the music gods have looked down upon thee and deemed you all worthy of a smattering of free live shows. Oh, and the usual gratis art and book events are in here too.
Monday: While some artists are putting their heads inside cheerio-filled Tupperware and calling washing machines "Mother," others are using gadgets to tweak how we see nature. "Contemporary Landscapes" is a free exhibit at Wynwood's Bakehouse Art Complex.
Tuesday: There'll be cheap powerpop at Sweat Records when Lemuria, indie rockers from Buffalo, NY, play an in-store performance. Cover is just $5. C'mon, you can swing that.
Wednesday: Want to learn how to make arroz blanco con habichuelas y pollo guisado? Food TV host Daisy Martinez discusses her new Puerto Rican cookbook at Books & Books.
Thursday: Vagabond's (((Shake))) party is hosting Brooklyn DJ
Travis Stewart AKA Machine Drum, who's on the cool list for selling
snippets of his electro glitchy beats to Adult Swim. Free before 11 p.m.
Friday: If you've noticed dozens of your friends "liking" Heineken
on Facebook, it's not because they got a sudden hankering for the green
beer. They're just hip to the secret free Heineken show this weekend
where Cold War Kids and the Hold Steady will play. Want tickets? It
involves a lot of clicking but in the end, it's free.
