Mango Mash Up

What’s the worst thing that happened this year? Oil spill in the gulf? Tea Party becoming a national force? Pot legalization flaming out in California? No matter your answer, sprinkle some comedy on it, add a dash of satire, and finish with a flourish of revelry. You’ll have this year’s King Mango Strut. Going into its 29th edition, the parade pokes fun at all of the year’s major news stories and personalities as it winds through Coconut Grove along Commodore Plaza, Main Highway, and Grand Avenue. Since 1982, the strut has put the “nut” back in Coconut Grove, and the more things change in the world, the more the Strut stays the same. “The corruption is the same. All we have to do is change the faces,” says Antoinette Baldwin, one of the many organizers. At this year’s event, expect to see TSA agents getting fresh, tar balls floating along the procession, Tea Pot Partiers, and the California Stoner Party lighting up to commiserate the loss. And if you thought you heard the last of those annoying South African vuvuzelas, think again. This year’s Grand Marshal is A Pair of Nuts.
