Can you sing? Can you dance? Can you make folks laugh their pants off? Well, if you can’t, you can at least enjoy other people doing so, or at the very least failing miserably at it. This Friday, there’ll be a whole lot of money at stake for all kinds of singers, dancers, rappers, spoken-word artists, and magicians.
If you haven’t heard of Lyric Live, you’ll be glad you just did. It’s an exciting amateur night presented by the Black Archives History & Research Foundation at the Historic Lyric Theater Cultural Complex (819 NW Second Ave., Miami), where you can marvel at the greats just as much as the failures, all of whom strive for the grand prize of $500.
The show, hosted by comedian Chello and featuring live music by Jody and the Deep Fried Funk Band, kicks off at 8 p.m. But the night begins earlier for those with purchased tickets; drinks will be available at a cash bar during a mix-and-mingle happy hour at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $10 for the event and are available through Eventbrite at theblackarchives.org and the Lyric Theater box office or by calling 786-708-4611.
