The day after Christmas can be hard. Still a little sleepy from being woken in the wee hours by kids eager to tear open their gifts, drowsy from all of the overeating, and a house filled with family looking to be entertained. There’s a cure for your post-Christmas stupor and an easy way to show your guests the best of Miami: the Viernes Culturales/Little Havana Art Walk. Head on down to Calle Ocho and see the cultural offerings the historic neighborhood has to offer; from contemporary art to historic pieces and beautiful architecture. And if you still have room after your Christmas feast, you can stuff yourself sillier at one of the neighborhood’s restaurants. You can also catch a history walking tour of the neighborhood led by scholar and local-history expert Dr. Paul George. If there’s anything you ever wanted to know about Little Havana’s history, George is certain to have a weird and entertaining answer. The city will be running a free trolley, so leave your car at home. The trolley leaves from the Mary Brickell Village and the Brickell Metrorail and runs to Calle Ocho every 15 minutes, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Viernes Culturales takes place between SW 8th St. and SW 15th St., starting at 7 p.m. The history walking tour begins at 7 p.m. and starts in front of the Tower Theater, 158 SW 8 St. Both events are free.
