All the major religions have one thing in common: When they hold a spiritually themed concert, there are guaranteed to be squeaky-clean mamas boys in their nicest suits onstage singing their hearts out about devotion. But even though today's Aviv Music Festival will surely make your bubbe a little verklempt, with acts such as Yaakov Shwekey and Avi Perets, it isn't just for stereotypical Jewish grandmothers. Blue Fringe, for example, blends mainstream rock and roll with Jewish themes; youll find a respectable cover of the Flaming Lips Do You Realize? on the bands website, www.bluefringe.com.
There's no kosher Hanna Montana on the bill, but youngsters will still have lots to do. Magicians, carnival performers, and face painters will be on hand during the afternoon before the evening concert kicks off. Bayfront Park Amphitheater opens at 4 p.m.
