The Ife-Ile Afro Cuban Dance Company is truly a unique Miami institution. Though its origins are rooted in the island nation south of us, Afro-Cuban dance and music have become an integral part of South Florida. For the 15th year, Ife-Ile will host its Afro Cuban Dance Festival this Friday through Sunday at the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus (300 NE Second Ave., Miami) and the Little Haiti Cultural Center (212 NE 59th Ter., Miami). This year, the featured dancer will be Fara Tolno, from Guinea in West Africa. He has performed with the likes of Burning Spear, Neil Young, Youssou N’Dour, Salif Keita, and B.B. King. The festival will include video, panel discussions, performances, and workshops, with an emphasis on forms such as orisha dance, conga, rumba, and salsa. It culminates at 8:30 p.m. Sunday with a concert highlighting Afro-Cuban artists, festival participants, company founder Neri Torres, and the excellent Ife-Ile drummers. Visit ife-ile.org/festival/schedule.htm or call 305-796-1125.
