Green Thumbs Up

South Florida is one of the easiest places in the world to grow a garden. The constant humidity, frequent rainfall, and plentiful sunshine provide just about everything a typical seedling needs to survive. But some people just don’t have the green touch. If you’re one of them, head to the Edible Garden Festival at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (10901 Old Cutler Rd., Miami) this weekend. All day Saturday and Sunday, visitors can check out lectures and gardening and cooking demonstrations to get them started on a little green patch of their own. The festival will also include a plant and produce sale, a pumpkin patch, and a scarecrow competition. And don’t worry — there’ll be booze too, in a beer garden where visitors can sample some excellent fall brews.
